We Wai Kai Nation Head Start

The We Wai Kai Nation Cape Mudge Band Headstart Program is offered at Quinsam and the We Wai Kai Preschool Daycare Headstart Program is offered at Cape Mudge. Cape Mudge differs in that it offers daycare within the program. There are six (6) components to the program: culture and language, education, health promotion, nutrition, parent & family involvement and social support. The program is a warm, accepting, and caring environment for both children and their families and offers morning, all day, and afternoon programs. In both communities a Headstart Outreach program is provided for families with children ages 0-36 months. This includes weekly play groups, a mobile resource library, home visits and the engagement of children, parents and families in activities that encourage involvement in activities, nutrition, and skills that promote healthy lifestyles.

Vancouver Island Crisis Line

Provides support, suicide assessment and access to a Crisis Intervention Nurse. There is an online crisis chat service available from 6pm-10pm daily. During this evening period, it is also possible to text the crisis line @ 250-800-3806

Trousse Bébé Francophone

Bébé Francophone is a welcome package for parents for expecting parents or who have a child under 12 months old, and have French as one of the languages spoken in their home. The package contains lots of information, as well as some “goodies” (including a CD of French songs and a baby book in French). Some of the resources included are geared specifically to families where only one parent is a Francophone.

Talk to a Public Health Nurse

A Public Health nurse is available by phone or in person at the Health Unit during business hours (8:30 am -4:30 pm) to answer questions you may have about yourself or your family, or to help you find information or services in our area. If a nurse is not available, you can leave a message and will be contacted in a timely manner.

Support for Women

At the Women’s Centre Drop-In you will find a friendly welcoming place open to all women and their children. Come visit for peer support or crisis counselling. They can help refer you to other resources in the community. They have two computers connected to the internet for your use.

Speech – Language Program

This program provides services to children with communication and / or feeding needs, from birth to school entry. We can support your child with talking, understanding language, playing, interacting with others, and eating. Services include: assessment (how your child is doing), consultation (ideas for next steps), and therapy (working on new skills together).

Single Parent on Income Assistance

The single parent employment initiative can help you secure employment by providing opportunities such as up to 12 months of funded training for in-demand jobs or paid work experience placements. In addition, child-care costs are covered during training and in the first year of employment.

Seasons Freestore

Seasons Freestore is a unique ministry here in Campbell River. They offer gently used clothes for children and adults for free to anyone in need. The team works hard to provide this hand up in an excellently presented store-like environment where people can find a new outfit that is appropriate for the season.

Right from the Start – Perinatal Services

The Right from the Start program offers support for pregnant women and new mothers, their babies, children and families.

Quadra Island Food Bank

Food distribution day is the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month from 1:00 – 2:00 pm
