Single Parent on Income Assistance
The single parent employment initiative can help you secure employment by providing opportunities such as up to 12 months of funded training for in-demand jobs or paid work experience placements. In addition, child-care costs are covered during training and in the first year of employment.
NIEFS is holding weekly information sessions about the WorkBC Single Parent Employment Initiative for single parents on BC Employment Assistance (BCEA Income or Disability Assistance) - http://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/family-social-supports/income-assistance/on-assistance/employment-planning/spei .
This WorkBC initiative was introduced a year ago and has been assisting single parents on BCEA obtain the training or work experience they need to connect to the workforce. The initiative also assists single parents on BCEA with dependent care supports while in training or learning on the job with a wage subsidy. Single parents can also receive dependent care assistance if they get a job for up to a year to help them maintain employment. NIEFS has other services and supports that can help as well.
